Season 5 is when things started to head south, pardon pun. - Character motivations and plot elements feel forced. - Dialogue gets hokey ("You want a good girl but bad pussy") - Pacing issues, such as slowing the plot down for boring scenes of townsfolk complaining to Danerys. - Fight scenes get sloppy/gratuitous.
That's how I remember Game of Thrones. I think seasons 5 and even 6 are still good TV, but when Game of Thrones is compared to shows like Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, etc. The first 4 seasons are the only part of GoT that is on that level. The finale of season 4 is so good it kind of feels like an ending of its own. Which it is.
Game of Thrones: Season 8 Reviews. After George RR Martin's books ended, the show's mojo seemed to follow. It may have still constituted event TV, but in retrospect that was based on the strength

Season 5, 7, 8 are all of similar head scratching cartoonish quality. 6 actually had some semblance of what made GOT great initially. 6 gets included in the ridicule due to just how bad things got and where everything ultimately lead.
The death of the Night King and all that 8-season setup leading to his death halfway through the final series could be seen as quite an unexpected twist: everyone thought the story was going down a different path and D&D went against expectation and told us that our expectations aren't always fulfilled.
Season 8 of Game of Thrones was not that bad Seasons 1-4 were great, season 5 was alright but the Dorne subplot makes me die on the inside, but had an awesome season finale, season 6 was an improvement but was still not as good as it was, but season 7 was horrible.
